Stadium Overview

The Etihad Stadium is Manchester City's home on the Etihad Campus in east Manchester. Originally built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games before being converted for football, it is now a major modern Premier League stadium surrounded by training facilities, fan areas, tram stops and wider campus development. The stadium has a listed capacity of around 53,500, with rail seating installed in the lower tier of the South Stand.

The stadium is a modern bowl, but the stands still have clear identities. The Colin Bell Stand and East Stand run along the sides of the pitch, while the North Stand and South Stand sit behind the goals. The South Stand is particularly important for atmosphere and contains both home vocal areas and the away section, separated by segregation. The lower tier of the South Stand includes rail seats, giving it a more intense feel than some other areas of the ground.

The Etihad is spacious, well-organised and built for large crowds. Views are generally excellent, with modern concourses and very few obstructions. The atmosphere depends heavily on fixture and occasion, but big European nights, title-run matches and Manchester derbies can make the stadium feel very loud. For neutrals, the side stands are the best overall option, while the South Stand is better for supporters wanting a more vocal matchday.

Away End

Away supporters at the Etihad Stadium are located in the South Stand. Manchester City's official away guide states that away fans should use entrances L1, L2 and L3 for the South Stand, and that pre-arranged ticket collections are available at the South Stand Ticket Office from two hours before kick-off with photo ID required. The exact blocks provided to away supporters are confirmed fixture by fixture.

The away section has a modern concourse and clear views, but it can be busy because it sits within one of the stadium's liveliest areas. The visitors' section is close to home supporters in the South Stand, so the atmosphere can be sharp, especially for high-profile games. Supporters should use the entrance printed on their ticket and avoid trying to move around the wider South Stand.

Away supporters with access needs should check Manchester City's away access guide through their own club. The club notes that a Changing Places facility is available at the Etihad, but visiting fans who need to use it should make arrangements through their club's Disability Liaison Officer because movement across segregation lines may need to be managed.

By Train

Etihad Campus Metrolink, Ashburys & Manchester Piccadilly

The Etihad Campus Metrolink stop is the closest rail-style public transport stop to the stadium and is served from Manchester city centre. Ashburys rail station is also within walking distance and is a useful option from Manchester Piccadilly. Supporters arriving into Piccadilly or Victoria can use Metrolink connections towards the Etihad Campus. Allow extra time after full-time because tram platforms and city-centre services can be very busy.

Walking From Station

Etihad Campus Metrolink

Etihad Campus Metrolink is the main walkable stop for Manchester City and is right beside the stadium campus. The walk from the platform area to the stadium is short, but queues can be heavy after full-time. Ashburys rail station is another walkable option, while Manchester Piccadilly is a much longer walk or a tram/bus connection away.

By Air

Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is the main airport for Manchester City. From the airport, supporters can use rail, tram or bus connections into Manchester before continuing to the Etihad Campus by Metrolink, bus, taxi or walking route from the city centre. The Etihad Campus Metrolink stop is closest to the stadium, but platforms are very busy after full-time, so allow extra time for airport connections.

Taxi / Public Transport

Veezu Manchester

Veezu operate private hire services across Manchester and can be booked by app or phone. For the Etihad Stadium, taxis can be useful from hotels or stations, but post-match traffic around Ashton New Road and the Etihad Campus can be heavy. Agree a pickup point away from the busiest exit routes.

ComCab Manchester

ComCab Manchester operate traditional taxi services across Greater Manchester. They can be useful for city-centre, hotel or airport connections to the Etihad, but queues and road congestion are likely after full-time. Pre-booking is recommended for accessible or time-sensitive journeys.

Etihad Stadium Matchday Bus Network

Manchester City operate a dedicated matchday bus network with Transport for Greater Manchester for men's first-team home matches. The club states that 19 buses operate before and after matches, with low-floor accessible vehicles and ticket purchase on the day. This is a strong alternative to driving, especially while Etihad Campus development work affects roads and parking.

Matchday Advice

The Etihad is one of the more straightforward major grounds to reach by tram. The Etihad Campus Metrolink stop is close to the stadium, with services linking to Manchester city centre. Walking from Manchester Piccadilly is also possible by following the signed route towards the Etihad Campus, but supporters should allow enough time, particularly in poor weather.

Driving is possible but should be planned in advance. The stadium sits within a large campus with official parking areas, but matchday traffic around Ashton New Road, Alan Turing Way and the wider east Manchester routes can be slow. Pre-booked parking or public transport is usually better than trying to improvise close to kick-off.

Away fans should go directly to the South Stand away entrances and follow the L1, L2 and L3 guidance. The Etihad is a large site, and walking to the wrong side of the ground can add unnecessary time. After full-time, tram queues and road traffic can be heavy, so allow extra time before making tight onward connections.

Tickets

Manchester City home tickets are sold through the club's official ticketing channels, with season-ticket members, Cityzens members and supporters with booking history usually receiving priority depending on the fixture. Premier League and Champions League-level fixtures can be difficult for casual visitors, so official routes should be used and tickets should be bought early where possible.

For neutrals, the Colin Bell Stand or East Stand usually provide the best side-on view and a calmer matchday experience. The South Stand is the stronger atmosphere area, with home vocal support and the away section both located there. Seats immediately around segregation can be livelier and are not the obvious choice for someone wanting a quiet first visit.

Away tickets are sold through the visiting club. Travelling supporters should follow their club's sales-window, ticket-collection and digital-ticketing instructions. Manchester City's away guide says collections must be arranged through the visiting club and tickets will not be reprinted on the day.

Stadium Rules

The Etihad Stadium applies standard Premier League ground regulations, including searches on entry, no pyrotechnics, no pitch encroachment, no discriminatory behaviour and no alcohol consumption in view of the pitch. Manchester City also operate a strict no re-admission policy, so supporters cannot leave and re-enter the stadium.

Supporters should use the correct entrance and arrive in good time. General admission turnstiles are normally advertised as opening two hours before kick-off, with food and refreshments available inside. Supporters are encouraged to be in their seats before the teams come out.

Manchester City publish specific flag and banner rules. In the away section, small flags are allowed within stated limits, but tifos, surfer flags and flag poles are not allowed in away areas. Larger banners may need fire-retardant certification and approval before entry.

Accessibility

Manchester City publish detailed accessibility information and an Etihad Stadium Access Statement for 2026/27. The club states that the Etihad Stadium is fully accessible for visitors, with accessible parking, lift access between levels and ramp access to pitchside areas. Supporters can contact the access team by phone or email for help with specific requirements.

Away disabled supporters should book through the visiting club and use the away access information issued for the fixture. The Etihad has accessible toilets and Changing Places provision, but visiting supporters who need to cross segregation lines for facilities should arrange this in advance through their own club's Disability Liaison Officer.

The stadium is modern and accessible, but the wider campus can involve long walks from parking, tram stops or coach drop-off points. Supporters with mobility needs should plan their arrival route, entrance and post-match departure before travelling.

Stadium Tours

Manchester City offer regular Etihad Stadium tours. The standard Manchester City Stadium Tour is bookable through the club and includes behind-the-scenes access to areas such as the dressing rooms, players' tunnel, pitchside and media areas, subject to stadium operations. The club also offers combined and premium experiences, including tours linked with the City Football Academy.

Accessible tour information is available, and Manchester City state that guides can facilitate an accessible route on request. Tours should be booked through official Manchester City channels and checked against fixture dates, because routes and availability can change around matchdays, concerts and stadium events.
