Stadium Overview

STōK Cae Ras, still widely known as the Racecourse Ground, is one of the most historic football stadiums in Britain and the world's oldest international football stadium still in use. It sits close to Wrexham city centre and Wrexham General station, giving it a very traditional town-centre football feel. The ground has been changing rapidly during Wrexham's rise through the leagues, but it retains a strong old-ground identity.

The main occupied stands are the Wrexham Lager Stand, Macron Stand and STōK Cold Brew Coffee Stand, while the historic Kop end has been subject to major redevelopment plans after the old terrace was demolished. The Wrexham Lager Stand is the usual away side of the ground, while home atmosphere is strongest around the more vocal home sections and the areas closest to the temporary or redeveloped Kop side. Ongoing redevelopment means capacity, routes and facilities can change more than at most Championship grounds, so the latest club guidance is especially important here.

Away End

Away supporters are housed in the Wrexham Lager Stand. Wrexham's first-time fan guide states that all away supporters enter the ground from Gates 1 to 4, situated at the Wrexham Lager Stand, and that alcohol is served outside the away end at the ground. Recent away supporter guide material identifies away turnstiles 1 to 4, with away seating in upper sections Y1 to Y3 and lower sections LY1 to LY3, including the away accessible platform in LY1.

The allocation can vary depending on fixture, demand and redevelopment restrictions, but the Wrexham Lager Stand is the established visiting supporters' area. Away fans should follow the club's latest match-specific guide because redevelopment work around the Racecourse can affect pedestrian routes, entrances, exits and the surrounding stadium footprint.

Getting There

By Road

From the North

Use the M56/A55 and then A483 southbound towards Wrexham. Leave for Mold Road and follow signs for the Racecourse Ground. The stadium is close to Wrexham General station and town-centre traffic can be heavy.

From the South

Use the A483 northbound from Shrewsbury/Oswestry towards Wrexham. Leave for the town centre/Mold Road and follow signs for the Racecourse Ground. Allow extra time around redevelopment and matchday crowds.

From the East

Approach via the M53/M56 or A55/A483 routes towards Wrexham, then follow Mold Road and Racecourse Ground signs. Check traffic before travelling because Chester and Wrexham approaches can be busy.

From the West

Use the A55 or A494/A541 routes towards Wrexham, then join the A483 or local Mold Road approach. The ground is central, so parking and road space near the stadium can be limited on matchdays.

By Train

Wrexham General Station

Wrexham General is the best station for the Racecourse Ground. It is very close to the stadium and ideal for visiting supporters arriving by rail.

Wrexham Central Station

Wrexham Central is also walkable and useful for local services and town-centre access, though Wrexham General is closer to the stadium.

Walking From Station

Wrexham General Station

From Wrexham General, the Racecourse Ground is usually only around 5 minutes on foot. Follow Mold Road and the matchday crowd towards the stadium.

Wrexham Central Station

From Wrexham Central, the walk is usually around 10 to 15 minutes through the town centre towards Mold Road and the Racecourse Ground.

By Air

Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is usually the best airport for Wrexham because of geography and road access. Use bus/taxi links to Liverpool South Parkway or Lime Street, then rail towards Chester and Wrexham General. Wrexham General is only a short walk from the Racecourse Ground.

Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is also practical for Wrexham, especially because of wider flight choice. Travel by rail via Manchester Piccadilly and Chester, or use a road transfer. From Wrexham General, the Racecourse Ground is usually around 5 minutes on foot.

Matchday Advice

Wrexham is a very strong rail away day because Wrexham General station is close to the Racecourse Ground, but matchday arrangements around the station and stadium can change depending on crowd size and redevelopment work. Away supporters should head for Gates 1 to 4 at the Wrexham Lager Stand and allow time for entry checks, especially with large followings.

Parking immediately around the ground is limited, and recent away guide material has warned that there are no provisions for parking at Wrexham General railway station on matchdays. Drivers should use official city-centre parking information and plan the walk to the stadium. Because Wrexham's profile and crowds have grown quickly, expect a busy matchday environment around the ground, the Turf pub area and station approaches. Check the latest visiting club guide before travelling rather than relying on older advice.

Tickets

Home tickets are sold through Wrexham's official ticketing channels, with demand often high and availability dependent on membership, sales windows and fixture category. For a neutral, side-on seats in the main stands generally give the best view, while the more vocal home areas are better suited to Wrexham supporters wanting atmosphere. Ongoing redevelopment can affect which areas are available and how they are priced.

Away supporters should buy through their own club once Wrexham release the allocation. Visiting fans are normally issued tickets for the Wrexham Lager Stand, with access via Gates or turnstiles 1 to 4. Collections, duplicates and matchday sales should be checked carefully before travelling, because high demand, redevelopment and safety planning can all affect away ticket arrangements.

Stadium Rules

STōK Cae Ras operates standard football ground regulations, including ticket checks, searches where required, segregation controls and bans on pyrotechnics, pitch incursions, throwing objects and discriminatory behaviour. Supporters should use the correct gate or turnstile for their ticket and should not attempt to move between home and away sections.

Because Wrexham are actively redeveloping the stadium area, fixture-specific instructions are particularly important. Supporters should check the latest club or visiting club guide for entry routes, exit gates, bag rules, flags, banners, payment methods and any temporary restrictions caused by building work. Away supporters should follow steward and police instructions around the Wrexham Lager Stand, station approaches and the surrounding streets after full time.

Accessibility

Wrexham's away supporter guide material identifies the away accessible platform as LY1 in the Wrexham Lager Stand. Away supporters using accessible facilities should enter through the away arrangements at Gates or turnstiles 1 to 4 unless directed otherwise by the club. The stadium's ongoing redevelopment means routes, platforms and facilities should be checked ahead of each fixture.

Supporters requiring wheelchair spaces, ambulant disabled seating, personal assistant tickets, accessible parking or other support should arrange this through their own club and Wrexham before travelling. Because the Racecourse is an old ground undergoing major change, access routes and provision can be more variable than at newer stadiums, so advance confirmation is essential.

Stadium Tours

Wrexham do not appear to operate a regular official public stadium tour programme in the same way as clubs with weekly bookable tours. There are third-party Welcome to Wrexham walking tours in the city that include Racecourse-related locations, and visitors may occasionally be able to access parts of the stadium through club, shop, community or event activity, but there is no clear evidence of a standing Wrexham AFC-run public stadium tour schedule.

Supporters wanting behind-the-scenes access to STōK Cae Ras should check Wrexham AFC's official website or contact the club directly before travelling. With redevelopment ongoing, any access is likely to be limited, occasional or subject to building and matchday operations rather than a routine stadium-tour product.
