Stadium Overview

Bramall Lane is one of the most historic football grounds in the world and remains a proper city stadium, close to Sheffield city centre. It is a four-sided ground with a strong traditional feel, even though it has been redeveloped heavily over time. The main stands are the Tony Currie Stand, the South Stand, the Kop and the Bramall Lane Stand.

The Kop is the main Sheffield United home atmosphere end, set behind one goal and known for creating much of the noise at Bramall Lane. The Tony Currie Stand and South Stand provide the main side-on views, with the Tony Currie Stand also containing important club and hospitality facilities. The Bramall Lane Stand is behind the opposite goal and is the usual away end. The stands are close to the pitch, and when the ground is full it can feel intense and very different from a modern bowl.

Away End

Away supporters are normally housed in the lower tier of the Bramall Lane Stand behind one of the goals. Ground guide and visiting supporter information regularly identifies the Bramall Lane End as the away section, with around 3,000 visiting supporters accommodated for many league fixtures. For cup games or fixtures where demand requires it, the upper tier may also be made available, but this depends on the competition, ticket demand and safety arrangements.

The away end is on the Bramall Lane side of the stadium, not the Kop end. Visiting supporters should follow the dedicated away turnstiles and avoid drifting towards the Kop, which is Sheffield United's main home end. The area around Bramall Lane can be busy because the stadium is close to the city centre, main roads and local pubs, so allow time for police or stewarded routes on higher-profile fixtures.

Getting There

By Road

From the North

Use the M1 southbound and leave for Sheffield via the Parkway or city-centre routes, then follow signs for Bramall Lane. The ground is close to the centre and railway station, so city traffic and parking pressure are common.

From the South

Use the M1 northbound towards Sheffield, then follow signs for the city centre and Bramall Lane. Allow extra time around inner-ring-road junctions and matchday pedestrian areas.

From the East

Use the M18/M1 or A57 routes towards Sheffield, then follow signs for the city centre. Bramall Lane is central, so parking is best planned before travelling rather than searching near the ground.

From the West

Use the A57 Snake Pass or A628 Woodhead route towards Sheffield, depending on conditions. These trans-Pennine routes can be slow or weather-affected, so check travel updates before setting off.

By Train

Sheffield Station

Sheffield station is the best rail option for Bramall Lane. The stadium is close to the city centre and walkable from the station for most supporters.

Walking From Station

Sheffield Station

From Sheffield station, Bramall Lane is usually around a 15 to 20 minute walk. Head towards the city centre and follow signs or crowds towards the ground.

By Air

Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is often the strongest airport option for Sheffield United because of flight choice and rail links. Travel by train from the airport towards Manchester Piccadilly, then connect to Sheffield. From Sheffield station, Bramall Lane is around a 15 to 20 minute walk.

East Midlands Airport

East Midlands Airport can work for Sheffield, especially if flights are cheaper or better timed. Use bus or taxi links towards Derby, Nottingham or East Midlands Parkway, then rail to Sheffield. Manchester Airport is usually easier for direct rail planning.

Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds Bradford Airport is another possible option, but onward public transport is less direct. Travel into Leeds, then take a train to Sheffield. It can be useful for some northern or European routes.

Matchday Advice

Bramall Lane is walkable from Sheffield railway station and the city centre, making rail a good option for many away fans. The walk from the station is uphill in places but straightforward, usually taking around 15 to 20 minutes depending on route and crowd movement. Drivers should plan parking in advance, as city-centre and stadium-area parking fills quickly and restrictions apply in nearby streets.

Away supporters should head for the Bramall Lane Stand entrances and allow time for turnstile checks and searches. The ground is close to home supporter areas and city-centre pubs, so for higher-profile fixtures it is sensible to follow official away travel advice and any police guidance. The atmosphere can be strong, especially near the Kop, and visiting fans should expect a proper old-ground feel rather than the spacious approach of an out-of-town stadium.

Tickets

Home tickets are sold through Sheffield United's official ticketing channels, with pricing and sales criteria depending on the fixture. For a neutral, the South Stand or Tony Currie Stand usually provides the best side-on view of the game. The Kop is the main home singing area and is best suited to Sheffield United supporters wanting atmosphere rather than a quieter neutral watch.

Away supporters should buy through their own club once Sheffield United release the allocation. Visiting fans are normally issued tickets for the lower tier of the Bramall Lane Stand, with the upper tier used only where allocation and fixture arrangements allow. Collections, duplicate tickets and matchday sales should be checked with the travelling club before setting off, as arrangements can vary by match category and police advice.

Stadium Rules

Bramall Lane operates standard football ground regulations, including ticket checks, searches where required, segregation controls and bans on pyrotechnics, pitch incursions, throwing objects and discriminatory behaviour. Supporters should enter through the correct turnstiles and should not attempt to move between home and away areas.

Sheffield United publish detailed supporter and access information for Bramall Lane, including AccessAble guides. Supporters should check the latest matchday guidance for bag rules, flags, banners, parking, ticket collection and prohibited items. Because the stadium is close to busy city streets, police and steward instructions around arrival and departure routes should be followed, especially for derby-type or higher-risk fixtures.

Accessibility

Sheffield United work with AccessAble to provide detailed access guides for Bramall Lane, covering parking, entrances, seating areas, concourses, toilets and internal routes. The club specifically points disabled supporters and visitors towards these guides so they can plan their visit in advance.

Away disabled supporters should arrange wheelchair spaces, ambulant disabled seating, accessible parking, personal assistant tickets or other assistance through their own club and Sheffield United before travelling. Because Bramall Lane is an older, redeveloped city stadium, the correct entrance and easiest route depend on the stand and ticket type. Supporters with mobility, sensory or medical requirements should check the AccessAble guide and contact the club before matchday.

Stadium Tours

Sheffield United do offer official Bramall Lane stadium tours. The club advertises tours giving supporters the chance to see the home and away changing rooms, walk down the players' tunnel, view the pitch up close and sit in the dugouts, subject to stadium operations.

Tours are booked through Sheffield United's official stadium tours page and are date-led rather than something to assume is available every day. Because Bramall Lane is an active football and events venue, routes can change around match preparation, maintenance or private events. Supporters should check current dates, prices and access arrangements before making a special journey.
